Enyimba ended their 10-game winless run with a 4-1 over Mozambique’s Black Bulls in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.
New signing Brown Ideye scored his first goal for the club on his continental debut, while Joseph Atule marked his return from injury with a brace.
Enyimba’s last win was on October 27, 2024, when they defeated Ikorodu City 2-1 in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The team had been struggling, winless in their first three games of the Confederation Cup group stage.
However, they took their destiny into their own hands on Sunday, with Atule scoring the opening goal inside six minutes.
Black Bulls equalized six minutes later, but Enyimba regained the lead courtesy of Ifeanyi Ihemekwele’s fine strike.
Ideye, who joined the club recently, came on as a second-half substitute in the 61st minute and made an immediate impact, scoring Enyimba’s third goal in the 67th minute.
Atule sealed the win with his second goal in stoppage time.
Despite the victory, Enyimba remains bottom of Group D with four points after four matches. They will host Al Masry of Egypt in their penultimate group stage game next Sunday in Uyo.
The win was coach Stanley Eguma’s first game in charge on the continent, and he will hope to turn Enyimba’s fortunes around in all competitions.
Their last group game will be a tough test against Zamalek in Egypt on January 19.
They are currently ninth in the table with 24 points after 16 games.
