Caleb Joshua broke the African and Nigerian U20 record in his 60m season opener in Nevada Silver and Blue Invite, clocking 6.57s.
In the heats, Caleb dropped a hint of what’s coming with a 6.68s, a personal best, PB before returning to set the Nigerian U20 record and winning the finals by 0.17 seconds over Academy of Art’s Ajani Ince.
The University of Alaska Anchorage sophomore was 0.01s short of the African U-20 Record of 6.58s set by Ibrahim Meite in 1994 after the 6.57 was adjusted for altitude.
Also, he broke the 23-year-old record of 6.66 seconds set by Taiwo Ajibade in 2002.
Furthermore, the time makes him the 6th fastest U20 ever and the 4th fastest ever in NCAA D2 history.

The mark equaled the world lead set earlier in the day by Tennessee’s Consider Ekanem, also of Nigeria.
On Nigeria’s all-time performer list, Caleb’s mark of 6.59 puts him at number 12.
