Kenya’s Edwin Kibet, crossed the line at the Eko Atlantic City to win the 2025 edition of the 2025 Lagos marathon.
Interestingly, Kibet arrived in Nigeria Friday night around 6 pm and didn’t have enough rest from traveling, but he still showed great strength to win the Lagos marathon.
Athletes competing in the 10th edition of the Lagos City Marathon took off from the National Stadium, Surulere running towards Eko Atlantic City.
Edwin Kibet won in 2:14:18 (unofficial time) and will take home the $50k prize.
Also, Kibet won the 2023 edition of the Lagos City Marathon race with a time of 2:14:14 seconds.
Geleta Ulfata of Ethiopia won the 2022 event while Emmaneul Naibei and David Barmasai won the 5th and 6th editions of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon respectively.
Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa won the women’s category of the Lagos City Marathon, beating her compatriot to claim her first title in Lagos.
Hirpa got to the line in a time of 2:37:04.08 (unofficial time), inspiring an Ethiopian 1-2 in the women’s marathon, with a Kenyan athlete settling for third place
Meanwhile, the annual event was upgraded to a gold-label race by the World Athletics body, eight years after its maiden edition.
