Victor Osimhen has shared insights from his discussion with the new Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, ahead of his reign.
Chelle was appointed the Super Eagles’ coach in January 2025 and is expected to turn around a poor 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
After his unveiling, Chelle traveled around to hold discussions with key players of the team including Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen.
Speaking on Mikel Obi’s ObiOne podcast, what Eric Chelle told Osimhen about his plans for the team was discussed.
“Éric Chelle told me he is going to be very demanding… The one who doesn’t run for every ball will not play.”
In addition, Osimhen revealed that Chelle wants the senior players to set an example for other players on the team.
“This is business. So he told me We’re gonna do amazing things. But guys, I need you to work with me. You know, to come hand in hand with me if the players see you guys running.”
The former Mali coach will lead Nigeria against Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, followed by a home match against Zimbabwe next Tuesday in rounds five and six of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Chelle and the Super Eagles will need victories in both games to put their World Cup qualification back on track.
