It’s An Alozie Stunner: Nigeria Edge South Africa To Return To WAFCON Final

An Alozie Stunner in the dying minutes was enough for Nigeria to edge South Africa in a tight WAFCON semi-final game to keep their dream of a tenth title alive.

The Super Falcons dominated the early parts of the game but couldn’t go past Dlamini in goal for South Africa.

Nigeria got a lucky break when a South African defender handled the ball from an unnatural position.

Captain Rashidat Ajibade stepped up to convert despite goalkeeper Dlamini touching the ball

Falcons lost their way in the 2nd half, allowing South Africa back into the game.

Ohale’s slight pull-back on Dhlamini resulted in a penalty converted by Linda Mothlao.

Moments later, the Super Falcons survived a scare: a brilliant ball into the box fell for Cesane, who tries to squeeze it in, but Osinachi Ohale prevents it from going into the net.

With the game destined for extra time, Alozie picked up the ball on the right and from about 30 yards sent in a cross that evaded everyone to slip into the South African net.

An Alozie stunner gave the Falcons the edge as Nigeria held firm for the remaining added minutes.

Nigeria will face the winner of the Ghana Vs Morocco second semi-final in the WAFCON final.

It presents Nigeria a chance to win a tenth WAFCON title, having last won the competition in 2018.
