The Nigerian national women’s rugby league team, Green Falcons, showed their dominance in Africa once again with a 48-8 win over Ghana’s Leopardess in a Tri-nation Rugby League game played at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium.
The Green Falcons, who finished second at the International Rugby League World Series in Brampton, Canada, went ahead early in the game.
Captain, Blessing Aladeyelu, and Success Iyorha led the Green Falcons, helping them race to a 10-0 first-half lead.
The team consolidated its dominance, adding 38 points to Ghana’s 8 in the second half to seal the win.
Elsewhere, the Nigerian national Rugby League men’s team, Green Hawks, started on the back foot, trailing 20-6 in the first half of the Tri-nation game against Ghana at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium.
Led by captain Gabriel Etim, the Green Hawks attempted to stage a comeback in the second half, got close before losing 36-24 to Ghana.
Gabriel had a strong game, despite picking up an injury in the 1st five minutes of the encounter, yet showed class to lead the lads as they tried to settle a bit and play their game, but it was a little too late.
The Green Hawks and Green Falcons will return to Nigeria later on Monday.
The Tri-Nation Rugby League festival featured host Ghana, Nigeria, and a United States Touring Team, The Roots.
