Former women’s 100m hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan and sprint sensation Kanyisola Ajayi will headline Team Nigeria’s squad at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships.
Last weekend, Kanyinsola Ajayi made history in Brussels by finishing third in 9.97 seconds to become the first Nigerian man to secure a 100m podium finish in a Diamond League final.
For her part, Tobi Amusan will hope to get one over Masai Russell, who ran 12.09 to break her women’s 100m hurdles record.
Overall, nine Nigerian athletes are named on the entry list to the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The World Athletics Ultimate Championship is happening this weekend, from September 11-13. Team Nigeria will compete in 6 events (5 individual and 1 relay race) in Budapest.

The Ultimate Championship will bring together Olympic champions, world champions, Wanda Diamond League winners and the year’s best-performing athletes across 28 disciplines during three action-packed evenings of competition.
Furthermore, a record prize pot of US$10 million is on offer, with individual champions earning US$150,000.
Instead of traditional medals, each Ultimate Champion will receive a bespoke trophy inspired by the championship’s star logo and the idea of “carving your name in history.”
Every participating athlete will also receive a personalised bracelet, inscribed with their name, which connects to the trophy to complete the piece.
