FIFA Investigates NFF Crisis Following Mass Resignation of Leadership

World football’s governing body, FIFA, investigates NFF crisis conditions in Nigeria following the abrupt resignations of Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau, the Secretary General, and key executive board members.

In a correspondence dated September 7th and signed by Elkhan Mammadov, Chief Member Associations Officer, FIFA revealed the intent of the visit.

The international governing body listed four stakeholder groups it will meet with when it arrives in Nigeria.

 “The purpose of this mission will be to engage with the relevant stakeholders and gather the information necessary to enable FIFA and CAF to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation.

The National Sports Commission promoted Deputy Secretary General Emmanuel Ikpeme as acting Secretary General. Still, FIFA’s letter lists his designation as Deputy Secretary General, revealing where it stands on the vacuum and the subsequent actions taken.

Furthermore, FIFA will be coming with the Confederation of African Football CAF on the fact-finding mission.

FIFA acknowledged the meeting with the National Sports Commission and the interim NFF officials, adding that the status quo must be maintained while it examines the legal implications.
