This number is only second to South Africa, whose participation in the FIFA World Cup led to 122m searches.
As the World Cup took over screens and conversations worldwide, a new study by the football predictions platform The Daily Punt analyzed fan numbers, professional players, stadiums, and search activity to determine which nations live and breathe football the most.
South Africa is the continent’s most football-obsessed nation, a July 2026 report found.

From street kickabouts to packed stadiums, the sport remains woven into daily life.
A sports analyst from The Daily Punt commented on the study:
“Every four years, the World Cup puts football front and centre, but what happens after the final whistle tells the real story. The nations that stay engaged through domestic leagues, player development, and year-round conversation are the ones that deserve the title of football countries. The tournament is just the loudest part of a conversation that never really stops.”
