Ahmed Musa Wants To Bow Out Of AFCON In Style
Nigeria’s captain Ahmed Musa wants his final appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, to end like his first.
When Ahmed Musa Attended his first AFCON in South Africa, 2013, it ended with songs of victory.
The less fancied Eagles shocked the rest of Africa, and now Musa wants an encore in his last AFCON.
The Stephen Keshi led eagles defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 to win a third AFCON for Nigeria.
“My first AFCON was in South Africa in 2013, and we ended up winning it. And my second appearance was in Egypt, and we won the bronze.”
During Nigeria’s press conference ahead of the clash against Egypt, Musa said he’s not implying international retirement but, this will be his last AFCON.
“This will be my last AFCON as AFCON is every two years but, I’m not retiring from international football as there will still be the World Cup this year.”
Fondly called the governor, Musa is the Nigerian with the highest number of goals at the FIFA world cup with four scored in between 2014 and 2018 world cups.
Meanwhile, he has one goal in AFCON participation.
He scored his only AFCON goal in the 60th minutes of Nigeria’s 4-1 semi-final win against Mali.
The goal came within six minutes of coming on in the second half for injured Victor Moses.
