The expected revenge by the super eagles against Algeria didn’t go as planned as the Gernot Rohr coached team lost by a lone goal in the international friendly played Friday night in Austria.

Nigeria had a slow start to the game allowing the Fennecs to mount early pressure in the game and it paid off with the Algerians getting the first goal of the game.

Centre-back Ramy Bensebaini ventured forward for a corner and after heading the ball down, poked it into the net.

Nigeria needed a way back into the game and Alex Iwobi led the onslaught in the latter part of the first half but his short off a counter attacking move went wide.

Moments later Onuachu received a cross from Zaidu Sanusi on the left flank but, he could not connect properly despite the Algerian goalkeeper caught out of position.

The tenacious pressing, and tackling by Algeria continuously deny Nigeria time and space.

Even with changes in the second half Nigeria could not convert the little chances that came their way with returning Tyrone Ebuehi dragging a low shot wide.

Algeria last lost in October 2018 away to Benin and now move to the Netherlands for a friendly against Mexico on Tuesday with a 19 match unbeaten run.

Nigeria’s attention next shift to Tuesday when they will face the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in another friendly.
