In a display of Grit and raw talent, Non-League side Mahanaim FC of Abuja showed why Nigeria continues to rank high in the football talent market.
Mahanaim FC held their own in a test match against Homebase super eagles’, featuring 2013 AFCON winner Ogenyi Onazi.

Furthermore, the match witnessed the striking instinct of Aliu Baba, the young striker from the Abuja-based side.
Aliu put up a goal-scoring show by netting a brace to put his team ahead with two well-taken goals.
Speaking after the game, Aliyu Baba who caught the eyes of football lovers in club’s (first) giant-killing run during the FCT Aiteo cup, stated that he was happy with his performance.
“I feel great to score against the National Team, it was a good game for us and I am sure we gave our best on the field.
“Well I won’t say I am surprised with my goals, it’s what I am here for, to score goals and help the team. I can guarantee that there is plenty to come from me in the future,” Aliyu added.
CHAN Eagles found their way back through Akwa United’s Promise Amadi and Rangers’ Chidebere Nwobodo to end the first-half 2-2.
The encounter happened at the refurbished training ground of the Moshood Abiola Stadium on the 18th of August, 2022.
Also, it is the first test match for the CHAN Eagles ahead of a crucial CHAN 2023 qualifiers against Ghana.
The coaching crew of the CHAN Eagles made six changes in the second half to chase keep their momentum.
The changes worked as lanky Rivers United defender Ebube Duru headed home the winning goal in the second half.
However, Nigeria’s Home-based Super Eagles fought back from a 2-goal down to defeat Mahanaim FC of Abuja 3-2.
Meanwhile, assistant coach Kenedy Boboye’ said the team is still a work in progress.
The CHAN Eagles comprises of players from the Nigeria Professional Football League.
