Club Brugge faced a difficult task of trying to get any form of result against Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park, especially after they had lost the reverse fixture at home 3-0.
The task was made even more difficult when key player, Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure failed to travel with the team because “he wasn’t able to sit in his usual seat”, missing the trip to Germany as a result.
The 23-year old Nigerian international was dropped from the squad for disciplinary reasons according to the Club Brugge coach after he had refused to travel with the team.
Of course his absence must have been felt on the pitch but it’s hard to imagine he would have made much difference anyway, as Dortmund ran rings around Club Brugge.
A brace from wonderkid, Erling Haaland, either side of a wonderful freekick from Jadon Sancho was enough to secure a 3-0 win for the home side.
The other Nigerian at Club Brugge, David Okereke made an appearance off the bench on the 70th minute mark, with the Belgian club already 3-0 down, it was difficult for Okereke to make any real impact.
Club Brugge still have a chance to qualify from the group stages, they sit 3rd with 4 points, behind 2nd place Lazio with 8 and 1st place Dortmund with 9 points and two games left to play.
