The president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has urged the super eagles to ensure they come out tops in the game against Tunisia.
The round of 16 clashes will happen at the Roumde D’Adjia stadium in Garoua, Cameroon.
Meanwhile, the minister for sports, Sunday Dare made the introduction of the president to the team via video conferencing.
speaking to the players, President Buhari praised the squad for their efforts so far.
“We are very impressed with your efforts, your efforts are paying off. Thank Nigerian coaches and especially to the players. Kelechi, Moses and the rest. I very much appreciate your efforts and I assure you the FG is supporting you with the resources available.”
In response, the coach of the team Eguavoen expressed the joy of the team in receiving the message from the president.
“Your excellency, receiving our message this morning is a boost to morale. We are much more energized to do more.
On behalf of the entire team”
The call by President Buhari to the team is a customary message by the various leaders in the country to the Nigerian teams.
Super Eagles beat Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau to top their group in Garoua with nine out of nine points.
Also, the current team netted six times while only conceding one goal in group D.
Also present at the Zoom meeting were the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, the Nigerian Ambassador to Cameroon, Gabriel Abayomi Olonisakin and the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick.
