Old rivals, The US and Senegal are part of group B, waiting for the Dtigress on the road to Paris Olympics qualifiers.
The Road to Paris 2024 is now defined for every nation still chasing the 10 available Olympic tickets.
Draws for the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2024 took place in Sopron, Hungary on Thursday, October 5.
There will be four tournaments of 4 teams, with Belgium hosting the D’tigress and others.
Meanwhile, the 4-time African champions will need to be among the top three teams in the group to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Road To Paris Olympics: DtigressNG chances.
Nigeria has been here before in 2020. Dtigress played Mozambique, the US, and Serbia.
The team beat Mozambique in the first game, put up a show against Serbia, and almost defeated the US, but they came back in the 4th.
Results from 2020 FIBAWOQT
First game: Nigeria 85-51 Mozambique
Second game: Nigeria 64-70 Serbia
Third game: Nigeria 71-76 USA
So it’s a similar situation in the 2024 FIBAWOQT, where we would have two African teams in the same group, which is good because it guarantees one African team a spot in the Olympics.
Furthermore, if you lose to the others, a win over the other African team gives you the slot.
Either Nigeria beat Senegal and go through or beat both Belgium and Senegal and who says we cannot take our chance against the US?
Sixteen teams representing all continents/geographical regions have qualified for the OQTs.
The three highest-placed teams from each tournament will qualify for the Olympics.
The US and France have directly qualified as world champions and hosts.
