Valencia have completed the signing of Nigerian international Umar Sadiq ton loan from Real Sociedad for the remainder of the season, according to reports.
The La Liga strugglers have agreed to pay a €1m loan fee for the 27-year-old striker, with an option to make the deal permanent for less than €10m in the summer.
Sadiq’s move to the Mestalla marks new manager Carlos Corberan’s first signing as Valencia look to steer clear of the relegation zone. The team has scored just 17 goals in 18 league games this season.
The Nigerian striker’s transfer follows a frustrating spell at Real Sociedad, where he made just six appearances this season, starting only two games and playing a total of 205 minutes.
Sadiq had expressed his frustration at the lack of playing time at the Basque club, stating that he needed continuity to prove himself. He started the 2022/23 season in fine form, scoring three goals in five matches, before suffering an anterior hicruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for 11 months.
Since his return from injury, Sadiq has struggled to replicate his form, failing to score or provide an assist in the league this season. He is expected to join his new teammates next week.
