The club’s chairman, Elder Paul Bassey, confirmed the appointment with coach Boboye at the Club’s office in Uyo on Monday, and the coach is expected to begin work later this week.

Bassey said Boboye’s return to the team was necessary to achieve their goals for the second half of the season.

“Boboye’s return to the team is necessary, adding that the decision to re-assign the coach was because of his track records and previous achievements with the club”. Bassey said.

Boboye previously managed Akwa United during the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons, leading the team to the Nigeria Professional Football League title in 2021. He also guided the team to the CAF Champions League debut in 2021.

After leaving Akwa United in 2022, Kenedy Boboye had brief stints with Heartland FC and Sunshine Stars before rejoining the Promise Keepers.

The 52-year-old coach will begin work later this week, with his first task being to prepare the team for the second half of the Nigeria Premier Football League season.

Akwa United are 19th on the NPFL table after 19 games.
