World Record Holder Amusan Set For Season Opener In Jamaica

World record holder in the Women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, is set to make her season debut at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet in Kingston, Jamaica on Saturday, competing in the 60m event.

Amusan will face off against Jamaica’s finest athletes, including home girl and track legend, Grace Jackson, in what promises to be an exciting matchup. This will be the first time the two athletes will compete in the same event.Tobi Amusan

The 27-year-old Nigerian, who switched coaches in September 2024 to train under Glen Mills, Usain Bolt’s former coach, is looking to make a strong start to the season after a disappointing end to her last campaign.

Although the meet is not World Athletics certified and will not count towards qualification for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, it will provide Amusan with a valuable opportunity to test her speed and agility ahead of the new season.

Other top athletes competing at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet include former world junior champion Anthonique Strachan, Jonielle Smith, Zharnel Hughes, Tyquendo Tracy, and Brendon Rodney.

Amusan, who holds the world record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.1s, has an impressive array of accolades, including being Nigeria’s first-ever world champion in athletics, a four-time African Games champion, five-time African champion, three-time Diamond League winner, and two-time Commonwealth Games champion.

She was recently inducted into the University of Texas El Paso’s Hall of Fame.
