Tobi Amusan will compete in Nigeria for the first time since breaking the 100mH World Record at the 2023 Nigeria Athletics Trials in Benin.
Amusan was in Ostrava last Tuesday, Lausanne on Friday, Stockholm on Sunday, and now in Benin for the national trials.
The Nigeria Athletics Trials holding at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, will produce athletes for the world championship in Budapest.
The Home Based Star, The New Convert, and A Regular in 400m
Ezekiel Nathaniel, Home-based star Samuel Ogazi, and Dubem Nwachukwu provide one of the biggest spectacles to expect in the 400m.
Dubem recently switched allegiance to Nigeria, while Samuel Ogazi has held the local scene spell bounding, winning all but one race in the AFN golden league.
Emmanuel Ojeli Ā competed in the men’s 400m at the Meeting Internazionale Citta’ Di Nembro in Italy, storming to a new PB of 45.63s
In men’s 100m, Alaba Akintola will be the main challenger to reigning national champion Favour Ashe.
Both sprinters are coming on the back of an interesting NCAA championship where Ashe made the finals.
On the blind spot will be former national champion Enoch Adegoke who is fighting his way back to form from injury. The Injury has kept Enoch out for a while.
Friends and Competitors At Nigeria Athletics Trials
Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro will put their friendship on the line when they go at it in the women’s triple jump.
Brume is coming to the trials after jumping 6.51m at the Lausanne Golden League meet to finish 5th and is the favorite. Ese will have real competition in the form of Ruth, who is aiming to upstage her.
Meanwhile, Nigerian sprinter, Udodi holds two of the top five performances in the men’s 200m sprint for 2023.
The NCAA 200m champion s expected to claim his first national title in the 200m.
