The Connecticut Sun announced that D’Tigress star Amy Okonkwo has signed a training camp contract with the WNBA side.
Okonkwo will add a wealth of international basketball experience to the Sun, having played overseas in the Ligue Féminine de Basketball (LFB) since 2021.
Previously, Amy was on a training contract with the Dallas Wings in 2021, but she didn’t make the cut and will hope to make a full return to the league.
A training contract is usually a non-guaranteed, one-year contract at the minimum salary that a player signs to participate in training camp with a team, essentially trying out for a spot on the final roster.
Two-time Afrobasket champion, Okonkwo currently plays for Tango Bourges Basket averaging 12.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.
The 6-2 forward from Fontana, California played collegiately at the University of Southern California (2014-2015) and Texas Christian University (TCU) (2016-2019), where she picked up Big 12 Player of the Year honors in 2018.
D’Tigress Star Amy Okonkwo is a two-time Olympian, playing with the Nigerian women’s national team in the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympics.
Also, the Sun announced forward Kariata Diaby of Cote D’Ivoire, a teammate of Amy Okonkwo at Tango Bourges.
Connecticut Sun will tip off the 2025 WNBA regular season at home on May 18 against the Washington Mystics.
