Following a memorable debut goal against Madagascar, rising striker George Ilenikhena’s Super Eagles ambitions now centre on winning major international trophies, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.
The 20-year-old forward received his first call-up ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
George Ilenikhena found the bottom corner after Iwobi played him through, drawing Nigeria level on the stroke of half-time against Madagascar.
The goal made him the 11th player to score on his Nigeria debut since 2000. He joins an illustrious club featuring Obafemi Martins, Julius Aghaowa, among others.
Speaking about his debut with the Super Eagles, Ilenikhena expressed his excitement at representing Nigeria and promised to work hard in training and matches.

The former Monaco forward also revealed his ambition to win major international honours with the Super Eagles.
“I will continue to work hard and deliver. To get more goals and help the team in a good way and win trophies with the team.”
As Nigeria prepares for the next AFCON qualifying match, Ilenikhena expressed confidence that the Super Eagles can secure the required results by working together with head coach Eric Chelle.
“We will give our best together with the team and the coach to win these two games and qualify,” he said.
Ilenikhena will now hope to continue his scoring streak for the Super Eagles when the team plays Guinea-Bissau.
