Eighteen days until the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL transfer window closes, and we are still here on the NPFL Transfer Mailbag to bring you up to speed with the recent happenings in the league ahead of the 2023/24 season.
It has been a quiet week as clubs wrap up their businesses, get some pre-season games.
From Katsina Utd, with a stopover in Port Harcourt where Bolaji Sakin is set to sign for six times Congo Premier League champions, AS Otoho on a one-year contract with the renewal option.
We understand that the salary is in the region of $1.2k – $1.5k per month.
Rivers United Makes Statement Signing
The country’s representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United, completed the signing of Ossy Martins on a free transfer.
The player who was meant to go to Östers IF, Sweden but had issues with his visa due to time constraints has now put a pen on a one-year deal.
Meanwhile, the oil-rich club has turned down a $50,000 offer from Tanzania side Azam FC for the goalkeeper Victor Sochima.
Azam has now been told to pay $100,000 to get their man.
Sochima could leave for free after next season if Rivers United does not accept the offer.
Sporting Lagos Shaking Things Up Ahead of Debut Campaign
Sporting Lagos released a statement on Chisom Orji and Kalu Chukwuemeka existing in the club following the expiration of their loan deals. This comes days after it was exclusively revealed here.
The club is now closing in on a free signing of winger Godwin Odibo.
Understand negotiations are advanced with the final amount of salary left to be sorted with Odibo asking for more in pay.
Sunshine Stars and Doma Utd remain interested and ready to hijack if the deal fails.
A New Coach In Katsina United’s Dug Out.
Back in the north, Katsina Utd continues to be in the news or perhaps have been the busiest in the past week.
Firstly, The Chanji boys named coach Tony Tope Bolus as the club’s new Technical Adviser.
Bolus signed a two-year contract with the Chanji Boys and replaced Usman Abdallah, who walked away from the team.
Furthermore, Abdullahi Yunusa, Moses Effiong, Ademola Adebambo, Hamisu Saidu, Sunday Akinmoladun, Michael Ibe, Anas Hassan, and Chris Madaki have all joined as the new players available to coach Bolus on a two years deal.
In Ilorin, Sadeeq Yusuf has completed a free transfer move to Kwara Utd on a two-year deal.
He last played for Akwa Utd but left after Fatai Osho revealed he isn’t needed.
Finally, the transfer mailbag stop is in Enugu, as the state government will announce Barr. Amobi Ezeaku is the new CEO of Rangers International.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State transition committee contacted the sports lawyer in May to take up the role.
Amobi, we understand, has drawn up a four years strategic plan for the club.
