The two clubs representing Nigeria in the CAF champions league representatives are out after Enyimba and Remo lost out to Al Ahli and Medeama SC respectively.
Nigerian League champions Enyimba FC of Aba suffered a surprising barren draw against Al Ahly Bengazi to fall out of the CAF Champions league on 3-4 aggregate scores.
Needing just a single goal margin win, Enyimba could not find the back of the net in Aba as efforts went begging.
However, the two time African kings couldn’t replicate their three goals feat from the first-leg in the return leg.
It is the 1st time the Elephants of Aba will exit the competition at this stage since exiting in the 1st round in 2015.
CAF Champions League:Â Remo Stars Loses Out
Elsewhere in Ikenne, Remo Stars fell in the first round for the second season running on the continent.
The Sky blue stars thought they got the winning goal in the dying minutes of the 2nd leg against Medeama Fc of Ghana, but it was ruled out for offside.
Earlier in the 72nd minute, Remo got a goal from a goalmouth scramble to even scores on aggregate.
Olamilekan Adams with the goal to give Remo stars a lifeline in the game.
With the game ending in 1-1 aggregates scores, it was time for penalty shootout.
During the penalty shootout, Remo stars players couldn’t keep their composure as they missed three kicks while scoring two.
Medeama SC of Ghana converted three kicks to qualify for the next round of the CAF champions league.
Obasogie The Hero For Bendel Insurance
Meanwhile, in far away Chlef, Algeria Amas Obasogie was the hero as Bendel Insurance move to the next round of the CAF confederations cup with a 4-3 penalty shootout win.
The game ended 1-0 same as the first leg result in Benin.
Insurance will now face another Algerian club, RS Berkane in the second round of the CAF confederations cup.
