Switching Allegiance from One Country to the other always comes with the attendant shift in orientation for new players like, Jordan Torunarigha.
The Gent defender is the latest player to pursue his international career with Nigeria despite playing for Germany at the youth level.
Jordan Torunarigha: His Fathers’ Son
Jordan Torunarigha and his switch is one for the movies has he is following in his Dad’s footstep.
Initially, he allegedly rejected Nigeria despite being the son of Ojokojo Torunarigha, a former Nigerian International.
After getting an invitation, Jordan is setting foot in Nigeria for the first time according to sources and his father couldn’t be any happier.
“I am lucky he decided to come and everything is okay. Very excited, that’s why his brother is here and I as a father decided to come because as a former footballer I know how it is to be in the national team.” Ojokojo told Tobi Adepoju in Uyo.
Ojokojo is a former Nigerian international who was a darling of the local league with teams likes Shooting stars and Stationary Stores.
The case Of rejecting Nigeria
For Jordan, there are questions he seeks to answer with his performance on the pitch to win the fans over.
“It’s my first call up, get some playing time maybe and show the fans who criticizing me for denying Nigeria, although it’s not true, but just to make them feel happy and give something back, show respect”.
On cultural differences between Germany and Nigeria, Jordan is finding two exact opposites as he feels at home.
“it was nice to really meet the players, i think all of them are really nice people, they accept me. yes It’s nice to train with big players like Osimhen, Chukwueze. It’s nice to see them train. It’s a little bit different in Germany everything is really strict, for example you can’t go to meetings with flip flops, you have to wear normal shoes, but here it’s a little bit easier, everybody is having fun. As people know, Germany people are more organized and strict and here is a little bit more free.”
For the fans, who is Jordan? The defender shares insight into his mind. “Hungry young guy who wants to show the world what he can do. not that young but i am still a young player”.
