Group C of the 2026 African World Cup qualifying series came alive after Rwanda gave Nigeria A lifeline with a 2-0. defeat of South Africa.
A glimmer of hope and perhaps relief came for the Super Eagles today following the results of matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifying Group C.
Rwanda is now top of the group with 4 points after beating Bafana Bafana 2- 0 in a game decided in the Bature Stadium where they played a draw last Wednesday against Zimbabwe.
The result means Rwanda gives Nigeria lifeline with just two points off the leaders of the World Cup qualifying group.
Rwanda Gives Nigeria A Lifeline
South Africa, conceding two first-half goals to Rwanda is now second in the group with their 2-1 win over Benin Republic last Saturday in Durban.
Interestingly it is in the same Mabhida Stadium in Durban that the Cheetahs of Benin Republic this afternoon picked their first point of the campaign in a goalless draw with the host Crocodiles of Lesotho.

Lesotho is now on two points along with the Super Eagles with whom they played a 1-1 draw last Thursday in Uyo.
Currently, the Super Eagles are struggling for form after picking only two points in two World Cup qualifying series games.
Nigeria could only come back in Uyo after Lesotho scored first in the game.
Two days later, the Eagles once again were behind and needed saving in the 67th minute as Iheanacho nets the equalizer against Zimbabwe.
Interesting times now in the group as the next batch of games come up in June 2024.
