CAF president, Patrice Motsepe was gifted Rangers’ jersey at inauguration of CAF’s newest body – the African Clubs Association. Motsepe was presented the jersey by the General Manager of Rangers, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku.
Amobi was among the four NPFL sides that were invited for the inauguration which took place in Cairo, Egypt. Plateau United, Bendel Insurance and Akwa United were the other three.
At the inauguration, Akwa United’s chairman, a veteran journalist and seasoned sports administrator, Elder Paul bassey was unanimously voted the second (2nd) Vice President by delegates.
Elder Bassey will work with Engineer Hersi Ally Said, President Young African Football Club of Tanzania, who was voted as President of the association and the Marketing Director of South African side, Kaizer Chiefs Football Club, Jessica Motaung who will serve as the 1st Vice President of the association.
In a post election reaction, Elder Paul Bassey thanked his colleagues in Cairo including Barrister Amobi Ezeaku who encouraged him to run for the position. Elder Bassey said the victory was not personal.
“I dedicate this victory to Nigerian Clubs on whose platform I stood to contest. Even the CAF President today acknowledged the huge contributions Nigerian clubs have made to the development of the game in the continent.”
“There are a lot of positives to take away here and when we get back we have to share our experiences in order to build a better structure for our league as most clubs in Africa have dwarfed us success and infrastructure wise.”
CAF are inaugurating the African Clubs Association to help improve the quality and competitiveness of African Football. The chief objectives of the association is to help make African football commercially viable, globally competitive, attracting sponsors and building partnership with both private and government in the areas of providing standard sporting infrastructure as well as development of young talents within the continent.
Rangers’ jersey was available to fans to buy at the new Rangers store situated at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, the Cathedral, Enugu.
