Favour Ashe’s season opener is sending all the right signals after running a sub-10s in the 100m at the Pepsi Florida Relays.
His time of 9.99s makes him the first to break the 10s barrier in 2024.
Favour beat the field at the Florida relays by a mile with Jamaica’s Stubb in second with 10.18s.
Jamal Miller came in third with 10.19s.
Currently, Favour Ashe’s season opener is the fatest in the world with Japanese sprinter, Sani Brown on 10.02(+0.6) the second fastest time.
Pjai Austin of the United States rounds up the current top three fastest time in the world.
Earlier in the season, Ashe’s ran 6.53s in the indoors, his fastest opener since he debuted indoors in 2022. The time took him closer to breaking Deji Aliu’s National Indoor Record of 6.48s.
The Nigerian sprinter came to execute his race and did just that while affirming his mission to “win it all”.
“Last year didn’t go as planned and my goal for this season is winning it all. The SEC, Nationals, and then, hopefully, I make it to the Olympics, be in the final and we go from there.” Favour Ashe speaking to Citius Mag
The last Nigerian to make the men’s 100m final at the Olympics is Enoch Adegoke.
Enoch reached the final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but he couldn’t finish the race due to injury.
Ashe is the second Nigerian sprinter to drop a world lead after Consider Ekanem ran a 10.10 at the Navy New Sport Center, Lagos in January, 2024.
Next for Favour will be the 100m and 200m at the Tom Jones Invites in a few weeks.
