Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen and captain William Troost-Ekong have lauded the team’s performance after securing a 1-1 draw against Benin Republic, and also in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.
Eguavoen praised the team’s resilience, citing the challenges they faced during the match
“Coming to this game, we did not lose, the worst scenario is a draw,” he said, emphasizing their goal to qualify without any loss.
While also gearing up to face Rwanda in their final Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, the head coach believes Nigeria has the quality to beat any team, anytime, and wants to maintain the standard set by their impressive performance in the last AFCON.
“Having qualify, we Would not come here and die down, No, Nigeria is a team that is respected, we almost won the AFCON last time, so we have to maintain that standard”.
Troost-Ekong has also thrown his weight behind Eguavoen, backing him to lead the team to victory in the 2025 AFCON.
Troost Ekong said they had a good game against Benin but their idea was to win
The draw ensured Nigeria’s spot at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a game to spare.
The Super Eagles have undergone a significant transformation, with two wins and one draw in their last three matches, earning seven points to remain top of the Group D table,
Their recent victories include a 1-0 win against Libya, with Tom Dele-Bashiru scoring the decisive goal
