The Super Eagles camp has been hit with a mix of sad news and squad adjustments ahead of their final AFCON qualifying match against Rwanda.
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali will miss the upcoming match against Rwanda as he takes time to grieve the loss of his father, Godspower Onyekam Abali, who passed away recently at the age of 67.
In light of this, head coach Augustine Eguavoen has decided to excuse Nwabali from the squad for the final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match in Uyo.
Nwabali’s departure would open door for Maduka Okoye to reclaim the starting position.
Also, Ademola Lookman will miss today’s training session due to a knock sustained during Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Benin Republic. The extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but the team’s medical staff is monitoring his progress.
Meanwhile, Ola Aina has departed the Super Eagles camp to rejoin his club, Nottingham Forest, ahead of their crucial Premier League match against Arsenal.
Coach Austin Eguavoen agreed to release Aina early, given Nigeria’s already secured AFCON qualification.
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda on November 18, 2024, in their final qualifying match. Despite having already qualified, the team is expected to field a strong lineup to maintain their momentum.
