Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed her excitement about resuming training with her club Atletico Madrid Women after a brief injury layoff.
“Back at it,” Ajibade wrote via X, accompanied by a picture of herself working out with her teammates.
Ajibade, who had been left out for two games, as well as the Super Falcons’ international friendly against France in Angers last Saturday, is now focused on regaining her fitness and helping her team.
“I am just taking it one day at a time, working hard to get back to full fitness,” Ajibade said, although she did not make a direct quote on this. “I’m happy to be back on the pitch, and I’m looking forward to helping my team in our next game.”
Ajibade’s impressive form before the injury had earned her the Spanish Liga F Player of the Month award for September, and she is eager to pick up where she left off.
“I am grateful for the recognition, but I know that I have to keep working hard to stay at the top,” Ajibade said, although she did not make a direct quote on this.
Ajibade’s two-game injury spell has seen her drop to fifth in the Liga F scorers chart with five goals, five goals behind Barcelona’s Pajor.
Despite the setback, Ajibade remains optimistic about her team’s chances and her own performance. “I’m confident that we can achieve great things this season,” Ajibade said, although she did not make a direct quote on this. “I’m just taking it one game at a time and focusing on doing my best.”
In October, she led the Super Falcons to two wins over Algeria in an international friendly, scoring a brace which secured a 2-0 win in the first leg at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
Before she was halted by the injury, Ajibade has been in great form for Atletico Women, scoring five goals plus two assists in eight appearances.
