The Super Eagles B have been drawn in Group D of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, and Sudan.
The draw ceremony was held at the Kenyatta International Conventional Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, On Wednesday, where the 19 qualified teams were divided into four groups.
The Eagles are making a return to the biennial competition after a six-year absence
Nigeria’s Super Eagles B, secured a spot in the tournament after a goalless draw and 3-1 aggregate against Ghana’s Black Galaxies in the qualifiers
Eagles’ best outing is a second place finish at Morocco 2018, losing to the host 4-0.
This year’s tournament was earlier scheduled to take place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from February 1 to 28, 2025, but has now been postponed to August 2025.
Nigeria has been in camp in Ikenne preparing for the championship but it has now been closed after the postponement.
Meanwhile, new Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, alongside NFF’s Technical Director Austin Eguavoen arrived at the Super Eagles B camp in Ikenne on Tuesday but the preparations has been on hold since the tournament was postponed.
Chelle was mandated by the NFF to supervise the team under coach Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu, with the expectation that he would see some players that would be suitable for the main team.
The 2024 CHAN will feature 24 teams, with five more teams expected to join the tournament as wild card entrants. The competition will be played in four venues across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
