D’Tigers earn first win of the final Afrobasket qualifying window with a 70-75 result over host, Libya.
Nigeria started with a 6-0 run before allowing Libya to come from behind to win the first quarter 15-14.
Subsequently, Libya maintained the lead in the second quarter with a 20-18 score.
D’Tigers endured a 1:28secs and an 8-0 run by Libya to win their first game of the final qualifying window.
The Libyan run came on the heels of Nigeria’s 8-0 run, which extended Nigeria’s one-point lead from 61-62 to 61-71 in the same fourth quarter.
With 0:14secs left, Caleb Agada made a layup to push the score to 68-75 and Nigeria held on for a 70-75 win.
Nigeria shot over 57% from the 2pt, 45% from the 3pt, and 80% from the free-throw line.
Overall, Caleb Agada (14p 10r) and Talib Zanna (14p 7r) led the D’tigers, combining for an impressive 28 points.
Libya beat Nigeria in the first round of the qualifiers with an 82-89 win in overtime.
In the other game of group B, Uganda beat Cape Verde, 63-60 to boost their chances of qualifying.
Cape Verde leads Group B and has already qualified for the Afrobasket finals.
Next up for the D’Tigers is a clash against Uganda, scheduled for 5 pm tomorrow. After the D’Tigers earn their first win, the team will be looking to wrap up qualification for the #AFROBASKET with another victory.
