It is no longer news that the Nigeria Football Federation has released the list of players for the Unity Cup set to take place at the GTECH stadium, home of Brentford FC.
26 players are penciled down to fly the Super Eagles colours at the end of the month as Nigeria takes on the Black Stars of Ghana, while the winner will play the winner between Jamaica vs. Trinidad and Tobago.
However, 10 of the invited 26 players play in the NPFL, with Ahmed Musa (Kano Pillars) leading them to the UK.
Unity Cup: A List Without The Top Goalscorer
These home-based players deserve their invitation, but they are giving football followers the concern that the league’s top scorer’s name is conspicuously missing.
For the benefit of those who don’t know who we are talking about, Anas Yusuf currently tops the 2024/25 NPFL season goal scorers’ chart with 18 goals after 37 games.
Similarly, the man closest to him has 12 goals from the same number of games.
Anas Yusuf played a pivotal role in leading Nasarawa United out of the drop zone with his goals. Despite having a poor first half of the season, Anas Yusuf helped Nasarawa United to only two losses in 17 games in the second round of the 2024/25 NPFL season.</p>
Meanwhile, some football followers within the country shared the same sentiment as they believe that Anas Yusuf should have made the final roster for having a stellar season with the solid miners.</p>
The reward for hard work in the NPFL should be a place in the Super Eagles, but sadly, this isn’t the case for Anas Yusuf.
Whatever it is, Anas Yusuf deserves a place in the Super Eagles for his exploits in the 24/25eason. Hopefully, the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation will sit and look into this, then take the right decision, or should they just lookaway?</p>
Also, Anas Yusuf is the only player with two hat-tricks in the season, against El Kanemi Warriors and Abia Warriors FC.
