In her first game of the Afrobasket, Sarah Ogoke drained a trey with four seconds left on the short clock and eight seconds left in the quarterfinal game to put an exclamation mark in a dominant 83-47 win to help D’tigress book a semi-final spot after decimating Cameroon.
Nigeria is on a 27-game Afrobasket winning streak dating back to when they lost to Cameroon 70-71 in the 2015 semi-final.
However, the streak began after their 65–55 win over Angola in the 2015 third-place game in Yaounde.
Nigeria took control from the jump off with outstanding Amy Okonkwo leading with 15 points, 4 rebounds, shooting 4/8 from two and 1/1 from deep.
Victoria Macaulay added 10 points, while Elizabeth Balogun chipped in nine points.
Nigeria led Cameroon 41-29 at halftime. The D’Tigress were up by as much as 20, but a scoring drought of over two minutes slowed momentum.
D’Tigress Book Afrobasket Semi-Final Spot
In the 3rd quarter, Nigeria’s defense was on beast mode, restricting the Cameroonians to just 2 points in 10 minutes while scoring 23.
Nicole Enabosi was the star of the 3rd quarter with two back-to-back steals, to extend the lead to 75-45.
D’tigress scored a game-high 36 points, including a 26-0 biggest run and a leading time of 36:21 out of 40 minutes.
By the 4th quarter, every member of the D’tigress team registered a point, with Vera Ojonuwa’s layup in the 5th minute.
Nigeria’s D’Tigress will next face former coach Otis Hughley and his Senegalese team in the semi-final game on Saturday.
