18-year-old shot putter, Jessica Oji, recently switched allegiance from the USA to Nigeria and, on her debut for Nigeria, set a new national U20 record at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson.
Jessica Oji debuts under the Nigerian flag, having just recently switched allegiance from the US, landing a mark of 17.74m to finish 2nd in the women’s Shot Put at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson.
The new convert started her series with a foul before throwing 17.74m in her third attempt.
Auburn University’s Megan Hague won the women’s Shot Put Invite with a mark of 18.42m from her third attempt.
Nina Ndubuisi from Georgia University finished third with a throw of 16.91m.
Jessica was the USA U20 Shotput Champion in 2025. Now, as a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania, she holds the Ivy League record in the shotput at 18.45 meters and is currently number 2 in the NCAA.
Freshman Jessica Oji was the star of the show at the Penn Elite meet on Saturday, breaking the all-time Ivy League record four times in a single meet.
Oji, the freshman from Livingston, N.J, won the women’s shot put with a mark of 18.45m (60′ 6.5″).
Meanwhile, she first broke the Ivy League indoor record at the Penn Opener on Dec. 6 with a mark of 17.72m (58′ 1.75″).
Also, Jessica is the current U20 World Leader by over two metres.
She currently has a Personal Best (PB) of 18.45m, 2 centimetres better than the overall African Record (18.43m) set by Vivian Chukwuemeka.
