Women’s 100m world lead, Blessing Ogundiran, and five new kids on the block made the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN World Relays roster scheduled for May 2 and 3 in Gaborone, Botswana.
At the weekend, Blessing Ogundiran delivered a historic performance at the South Florida Invitational, blazing to a 10.98s finish in the women’s 100m, obliterating her own NAIA record of 11.21s.
The time makes her one of only two women worldwide to dip under the 11-second barrier this year, alongside Jamaica’s Shanoya Mikalia Douglas.
AFN World Relays Roster
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) released a list of 24 athletes for the relays after confirming that Team Nigeria has been accepted to participate in all events at the World Relays.
The list made public by the AFN’s Technical Committee after the successful entries included veteran athletes such as Patience Okon George, Blessing Ogundiran, Chidi Okezie, Ojeli Ifeanyi Emmanuel, Enoch Adegoke, and Favour Oghene-Tejiri Ashe.
The inclusion of Ashe put to rest rumours of an impending allegiance switch due to a breakdown in the relationship between the federation and the athlete.
The New Kids On The Block
Also, the list included new kids on the block, such as Gafari Badmus, Asuquo Ezekiel Eno, Lawrence Jacinta, Jimoh Toheebat, and Tejiri Godwin.
Meanwhile, Team Nigeria is competing in all the 6 relays.
