Kayinsola Ajayi defeats World Champion Oblique Seville again to win the men’s 100m at the London Diamond League.
The win is Kayinsola Ajayi’s second consecutive Diamond League win, running 9.84s, setting an equal national record and career best.
At the Prefontaine Classic, a Diamond League event in Eugene, Ajayi ran an identical 9,84s, beating Oblique Seville to second position.
He was ahead of Seville, who ran 9.87s, and Glave on 9.97, a personal best for the English sprinter.
Also, this is the third time this season Kayinsola Ajayi has run an equal Nigerian Record of 9.84s.
Ajayi dominated a strong field to win the men’s 100m at the London Diamond League, dropping another statement run.
The 21-year-old had a slow start with Seville ahead, but he clawed back within the 30m to go past the world champion.
“I just came out here and did what I had to do… I’m happy; I got the job done,” Ajayi told Olympics.com.
“I got out of the blocks like ‘Boom!’ I knew that if I did my start [well]… then everything was over.”
Head-to-head, the NCAA champion now leads Oblique Seville 3-1 dating back to the Tokyo world championship.
Ajayi confirmed he will race at the Commonwealth Games, which get underway in Glasgow on 23 July.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel was also in action at the London Diamond League, finishing 4th in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 48.30s.
World Record holder Karsten Warholm ran a Meeting Record of 46.61s to win the event, ahead of Emil Agyekum (47.45s) & Abderrahman Samba (48.10s), who were 2nd and 3rd respectively.
