The Nigerian Football Federation, NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, resigns during a press conference inside the NFF Secretariat, Abuja, amid intense backlash over the Super Eagles and Falcons World Cup qualification misses.
With exactly one month to the NFF elections, Gusau, who was seeking reelection, has decided to resign.
Gusau has been under immense pressure to vacate the position after the two major national teams, the Super Eagles and Super Falcons, failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cups.
“After consultation with family, friends and stakeholders, I just want to tell you that I have decided to resign my position. I adviced my board members because i carry my board members along to resign, but at the moment, i can’t tell you who and who has resigned.”

Gusau’s resignation comes 34 days to the end of his four-year tenure. He became the NFF President at the Annual General Assembly of Nigeria Football in Benin City, Edo State on 30th September 2022.
Also, Gusau was slow in implementing the congress reorganization, as allegedly requested by the Federal Government.
Stakeholders disagreed with the plans put forward to increase the congress and voting powers.
Meanwhile, General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi MON, on Thursday resigned his position, on the back of a groundswell of national disenchantment over recent dismal performances of the National Teams.
It was learnt that all the members of the NFF Executive Committee had also thrown in the towel.
