The Nigeria Davis Cup Tennis team for the World Group II playoff qualifier has promised to earn a record promotion against Morocco.
Nigeria qualified for a World Group II playoff spot after defeating Uzbekistan in February, ending more than three decades of waiting to reach this stage.
The players in Morocco include Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel and Yusuf Abubakar, under the guidance of Head Coach Benson Ishicheli.
Nigeria’s number one player, Canice Abua, is having a good year, in which he won the CBN Open championships, and in an interview with Phatil, wants to take that form into the Davis Cup
“It was a good feeling for the team and the country as a whole because we did a very good job, and people were happy; I was happy too. It’s also a big achievement in my career. We are looking forward to doing something good in Morocco, and as I told you, we are going there to win.”

Michael Emmanuel played a key role in Nigeria’s victory over Uzbekistan, a win which lifted the team into World Group II.
Now in Rabat for the Davis Cup tie against Morocco, the Nigerian No.3 is ready to help push the nation even higher in African tennis.
“Not my first time playing on clay; I played in Rwanda. Though I am not a clay court player, I know I can do well there. We want to win; we are motivated to go there and get the win. It has been our dream; we want Nigeria at the top. Obviously, we are African giants; we want to see Nigeria up there too.”
Nigeria Davis Cup Team vs Morocco Head-to-Head
The tie carries huge significance for Nigerian tennis. Having lost all four previous Davis Cup encounters against Morocco, the current squad sees this as a golden chance to rewrite history.
The team expected US Open and Roland Garros junior star Oluwaseun Ogunsakin; however, his arrival to link up with the rest of the squad in Rabat remains doubtful due to circumstances beyond his control.
Team Nigeria had a first feel of the court on Monday with a light evening training session at the Union Sportive des Cheminots de Tennis du Maroc.
