The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL 25 will kick off on August 31, 2024, as the NPL board announces innovations.
Coming out of the NPFL congress involving the NPL board and the 20 clubs, the meeting hinted at what to expect in the new NPFL 25 season.
Sportsintel takes you through the top announcement from the congress.

Increased Prize Money
The chairman of the NPL board, Gbenga Elegbeleye announced that NPFL 25 winning prize money has been increased to N200m, a 33.3% increase from the amount given to last season’s winner, Rangers.
Last season’s winners Rangers International cart home a sum of N150m as the prize money, and this season, the winner will go home with N200m.
In the 2022/2023 season, league winners, Enyimba earned N100m as the prize money.

Communication Gadgets For Referees
NPFL 23/24 produced contentious moments in various games that showed why the officiating team needs improved communication.
Enyimba Vs Doma United in Aba and Rangers vs Enyimba in Enugu were some games where a communication gadget could have prevented game-changing errors.
However, poor communication between referees and assistant referees will be a thing of the past in NPFL 25.
“We have concluded the procurement of communication gadgets that can minimize errors, and these will be available for the new season,” NFF president, Gusau announced before declaring the AGM open.

Matchday One Fixtures
League champions Rangers will play against returning El Kanemi Warriors in the opening fixture of the NPFL 25 season on August 31st.
Also, the fixture will be the star match of the season featuring league and FA Cup champions.
Furthermore, other fixtures will kick off a week after to effectively begin the new season.
