Taiwo Awoniyi has equalled the record of Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor as the Africans with the longest Premier League scoring run after scoring as early as the second minute to put Nottingham Forest 1-0 ahead against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Awoniyi has now scored in seven consecutive Premier League matches.
Two goals each against Southampton and Chelsea and one each against Arsenal and Crystal Palace in the last four matches to save the team from relegation last season.
The super eagles star has also now scored against Arsenal, Sheffield United, and Manchester United in the first three matches so far in the new season.
Taiwo Awoniyi scoring in 7 straight games breaks Stan Collymore’s Forest record that had stood since 1995. Also, scoring today makes him first Forest player since Peter Davenport in 1984 to score in first 3 games of a top-flight season.
Interestingly, Nottingham Forest broke the club’s transfer record to sign Awoniyi for £17m from Union Berlin in their first recruitment after promotion to the Premier League.
He scored ten goals last season to emerge as Nottingham Forest’s top scorer.
The two seasons so far is proving that Awoniyi is a premier league worthy striker after waiting seven years to make his debut.
His Liverpool years didn’t provide a single game as he spent seven seasons on loan in Belgium, Holland and Germany.
The former golden eaglets star will seek to continue the goalscoring form against Chelsea next week.
