Stanley Nwabali has come full circle as he is in the frame to get another chance with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The last time Nwabali was in goal for the Super Eagles was in an international friendly against Mexico.

Conceding four goals in the game didn’t help him, as the then-main Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, stayed away from.

Pictures surface on social media of Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro in South Africa to watch Nwabali in goal for Chippa United.

Sources within the Super Eagles say a member of the coaching crew spoke about Nwabali to Peseiro, and he promised to check him out after the international friendlies.

In fulfilling the promise and a recent uproar about the goalkeeping department of the team, Peseiro turned up to Watch Chippa United training.

Subsequently, in the game vs Sekhukhune United, Nwabali showed the Super Eagles coach why he should be considered by dropping a top-class performance.

With a Fotmob rating of 7.2, Nwabali made seven saves, 85% passing accuracy, and five saves in the box to reduce the effect of going one-man down in the game.

Stanley Nwabali Origins

“I watched him at Go Round for 2 seasons, every week, and at Enyimba too. If we were a country with sense, he would have been 3rd choice goalkeeper permanently since 2018, as we groom him.”

Journalist and former general manager at Go Round, China Acheru is the man who saw the future after watching Nwabali debut for NNL side, GoRound, five years ago.

His impressive performances for Go-Round FC made him attractive to Enyimba before earning a move to South Africa.

Since then, he has continued to fine-tune his game to smoothen the rough edges of his game, which includes time wasting.

The challenge ahead of Stanley Nwabali is making the Super Eagles’ number-one position his while banishing the ghost of recent disappointing performances by other goalkeepers.
