Rivers United Coach, Finidi George, remains optimistic about his team’s prospects in the Nigeria Premier Football League despite their 1-0 loss to Rangers International on Sunday.
Finidi’s team surrendered the top spot to Remo Stars after the defeat, but the coach believes there is still a lot to play for in the league.
“We have a lot of games to play and we will try to win our home matches. My team did well, we did not just get the goal we needed, so we will take the positives and go back home to see how we can improve,” he said after the game.
The coach lamented his team’s inability to convert their chances, despite carving out opportunities against the defending champions.
“I think it was not a bad game, there were a few lapses defensively, I did not expect them to score from a throw-in but football being what it is, sometimes you might concede that way,” he said.

Finidi also expressed disappointment that his strikers couldn’t capitalize on the chances created. “Before the goal, we had a couple of chances that I expected our strikers to tap in but that did not happen,” he said.
Despite the setback, Finidi is confident that his team can bounce back and reclaim the top spot from Remo Stars. The Pride of Rivers will host Kwara United next at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, and Finidi is looking forward to the challenge.
“We will go back home, work on our mistakes, and prepare for the next game. We have a lot to play for, and we will try to win our home matches to stay in contention for the title,” he said.
All To Play for in the NPFL
With Rivers United tied with Remo Stars on 29 points, but behind on goal difference, Finidi knows that every game counts in the title race. However, he remains upbeat about his team’s chances and is confident that they can still achieve their goals this season.
