The postponement of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) has dealt a psychological blow to the Super Eagles B team, according to Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede.
- The tournament, initially scheduled to hold from February 1 to 28 in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, was postponed to August by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Ogunmodede, who has been in charge of the team alongside Rangers International coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, expressed disappointment over the postponement, stating that it affected the team’s morale.
“We felt disappointed, and it was evident in the reaction of the match we played on Wednesday,” Ogunmodede said. “Everyone was not happy, considering the amount of work we had put in. Imagine during the festive period, we couldn’t even go and be with our families.”
The Super Eagles B have been drawn into a tough Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and the Republic of Congo.
Ogunmodede warned that the postponement would not guarantee automatic spots for the players when the team regroups in August.
“Our major job is to continue to prepare ourselves,” he said. “I told the players they have to stay consistent and keep the same ideology because coming back here is not automatic.”
