The president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ibrahim Musa Gusau has said that the soon to be appointed new coach for the senior national team of Nigeria(Super Eagles), will be in charge of the team for the CHAN tournaments.
Gusau told the official media channel of the NFF that the Daniel Ogunmodede, will give way for a new coach who will also be in charge of the Super Eagles, and would be known soon.
“We have come up with a policy, whoever Coach we have employed to manage the super Eagles would also manage the CHAN eagles, therefore, you cannot be given an opportunity to manage all home based players and at the end of the tournament you would not see one or two that can be injected into the national”
Ibrahim Gusau also added that Nigerians will know the Eagles’ new coach soon.
“Nigerians would know the coach of the Super Eagles very soon, the technical committee sat on Thursday, I am just waiting for their report, when I go through it with the approval of the board, then we will look into their recommendations, we would let Nigerians know the coach who would stir the affairs of the team leading them to World Cup qualifiers”
However the NFF boss said he cannot predict the color of the soon to be coach.
“I cannot say the color of the manager, as I have said a committee has already sat on this issue, in the application for this job their are black colors and white colors,
We would wait for the recommendation of the committee and we will look at it then we will send it out.”
The basic thing is that it’s going to be very soon because we are all concerned and we want whoever wants to take over the team to start immediately”
Meanwhile Gusau praised the CHAN Eagles for their performance against Ghana during the CHAN qualifiers.
“You saw what happened when we played against Ghana, a lot of people look at it and knew there is hope in Nigeria football because we actually saw the Nigeria spirit in the boys especially the match they played in Uyo, see what happened in Ghana too we did a great job getting draw from the match”.
Furthermore, he disclosed that the CHAN Eagles are in camp preparing for the tournaments ahead.
“We have them camped in a place where they can settle without any distractions, they are going to spend about two weeks there, then we look for a venue where we can take them to for a foreign camping, where they would have a friendly match before they move to the venue of the tournament.
We are very much aware of our responsibilities and we are ready to give them all the preparations they deserve, I want Nigerians to start with the CHAN tournament and by God grace we would do that.” He added
Daniel Ogunmodede has been in charge of the CHAN Eagles where he led the team with a 3:1 aggregate with Ghana while Austine Eguavoen successfully guided super Eagles to AFCON
